Feel free to skip this post if you don’t feel like hearing
the labor story of Abby. I wont feel offended but I wont go into too much
detail either.
I had been having contractions since the middle of April. My
due date wasn’t until May 6th. At my appointment mid-April, my
midwife said that I was already 4 cm dilated and that I should expect to have
my baby early. We packed our bags and waited. A week later, my contractions
were coming 4 minutes apart but they didn’t hurt. We went to the hospital
thinking that Abby was coming early. After 8 hours of monitoring and no
changing, they sent us home at 4am to wait till we were really in labor. Four
weeks later, I was still pregnant. I had changed to being almost 7 cm and I was
still not in labor. We were worried that we wouldn’t be able to make it to the
hospital when the baby decided that she was coming. My mother in law came to
spend some days with me but I spent most days at my mom’s or my aunt’s house so
they could take me to the hospital if needed. Dallin had a blast playing
outside in their yards and playing with April’s dogs. He got over his phobia of
people and even gives my mom and aunt hugs and kisses now.
At 39 and a half weeks, we decided that I should get induced
just to be safe. We went to the hospital and they again sent us home because
they initially said they had room but all at once they were full and had no
rooms available. We were scheduled to come back the next day. Third time is the
charm. Thursday morning, May 3rd, we went in at 9am. They broke my
water at 11am and 3 hours later, Abby was here. It was a pain free delivery
(thanks to the epidural) and only 20 minutes of pushing. She looked like Dallin when first born, but
she has changed a lot in three weeks.
We decided to name her Abigail Jayne Murdock. Her middle
name is Jayne, the same as mine, but her first name, Abigail, is after Abigail
Adams, John Adams’ wife. I read a lot and wrote a few papers about her in
college. I loved how calm and reverently powerful Abigail Adams was. I think
our Abby has that same power. She is quite a quiet baby but knows what she
wants. She is so sweet and loves to cuddle. She is content sitting and watching
people and loves getting kisses from her big brother. We love her so much.

Your children are beautiful! I'm so glad Abby is here and safe and that you are doing well. Dallin is adorable! I miss you guys. Hopefully I can see you when we make it back to Utah for Christmas.
