Smokey Summer

Summer has roared in like a lion. With no rain for nearly two months, it was bound to be a bad fire season.  Living in Eagle Mountain has its advantages. We have a quiet community. It also has its disadvantages. We live next to… nothing (but grass). Unfortunately, dry grass burns. When target shooters sparked a fire last Thursday, we were terrified it would spread to our house. Jason called me on his way to work and told me the whole mountain behind our house was on fire.

Needless to say we were a little anxious. It got close; a little too close for comfort. There were mandatory evacuations across the street from where we live. We packed up our bags and got ready to leave just in case we were told that we had to get out. Fortunately, we were able to stay. We smelled a little smokey but no worse for the wear. Luckily no houses were lost. It was amazing to see how our community rallied together to help one another and to make sure everyone was taken care of. I’m so grateful for the firefighters who risked their lives to save our homes.

Here is what the fire looked like from our house.

With a nigh emergency on our hands, it made me think about what is really important. Family is first. It makes me think what our family would need in an emergency and what things we would need to take at a moment’s notice. I’m trying to get papers and emergency kits ready if it ever happens again. While we were anxious and packing our things, Dallin could tell something was up. But I don’t think he understands the brevity of the situation. When he sees stories of the fires on the news, he blows and says “hot! Hot!” Yes, Dallin, hot. Very hot.

Minus the fire, we’ve had a fun summer so far. We have gone swimming (pictures to come), played in the water, and just overall have had a fun time.

Here is Dallin playing in the fountain at the Riverwoods in Provo

Abby is such a good smiler

Dallin loves dinner time. MMMMmmm rice….

My abby is a definitely a morning person. Its not such a good thing when she’s this wide awake at 3am. =) She likes to sleep on my pillow. I miss my pillow.

We’ve had a lot of fun. It gets us pretty tuckered out. (too tired to finish even our ravioli)

  1. I'm so glad you and your house are safe. When my mom told me about the fire, I was worried about you. Enjoy your summer! I love Abby's smile.
